The Community Learning Centers (CLCs) project by Seva Sahayog Foundation has made a significant impact in Boisar and Karjat districts of Maharashtra. Through four centers, each serving 30 students, the project has benefited 120 students from marginalized communities. These centers provide a conducive after-school environment, supplementing formal education with additional curricular and co-curricular activities.
Key interventions include personalized attention through smaller student-to-teacher ratios, and a comprehensive "Balmitra" curriculum that enhances cognitive skills and learning basics. The centers also focus on holistic development by incorporating activities such as festival celebrations, cultural and sports competitions, study tours, and residential camps. Additionally, students receive support for competitive exam preparation, improving their academic prospects.
The project has shown tangible benefits: regular attendance rates are at 75%, there is a 10% improvement in learning levels, and enhanced health and hygiene practices are evident. Personality development and increased interest in STEM fields are notable outcomes. The centers have also addressed adolescents' development, providing a platform for girls to express themselves and improving life skills awareness.
